Boaters 21 and under

Posted to YourHub Contributed by: Robert Scully on 1/22/2009

There is a Florida Statue number 327.395 that requires anyone, 21 and under, operating a boat with a motor of 10 hp or more, need to pass a boating education program and carry proof of this while operating a boat in Florida, in the form of a boating education Id card and a photo ID card.

For more details go to Florida Statutes 327.395 or http://myfwc.com/boating/safety/education_law.htm

To help the community we, the Vero Beach Power Squadron, provide a service to Indian River County by offering various Safe Boating Courses throughout the year in Vero Beach at 301 Acacia Road, next to the Barber Bridge and the McWilliams Boat launch facility.

We also list classes on - http://tc.yourhub.com/VEROBEACH, http://www.verobeach.com/clubs_organizations.html, http://www.chamberhub.com/cgi/foxweb.dll/wlx/dir/wlxdirecatn?catid=518&cc=IRCCC

As an introductory course, ABC does not cover such topics as the use of a nautical compass or the techniques of plotting courses.

The course has been approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA), and is accepted by most states to meet boating license or safety certification requirements. Most states recognize ABC as meeting their education requirements. The course material covers seven chapters, which touch on:

General information about boats and maintenance
Information to make your boating experience safer and more comfortable
Tips on being a more courteous boat operator
Laws and regulations to which you must adhere

Ron,
Thanks for contacting the VBPS and I am copying our PR person, BOB Scully,
in order to make sure he is aware of your publication.
The information, as you quoted is correct, however suggest that you use "
Vessel Examiner" in stead of VE. I also added a line, after "there is no
charge for this service".
Thanks again for contacting me.
Jack.
