Subject: Registration Insert - Public Boating Class at the Vero Beach Power Squadron

Dear Mr. Lombard:

Thank you for speaking with me recently on the noted subject. As I mentioned we, the Vero Beach Power Squadron, are evaluating the feasibility of including an insert in the registration renewal envelopes that are sent out in Indian River County. My original thinking was that these inserts would go to just the vessel owners, as the classes we offer throughout the year are related to boating education.

From our conversation I learned the following. The registration forms sent by mail do not differentiate between vehicles and vessels, there are approximately 5000 envelopes mailed out a month, and the mailing task is done by subcontractor (CDM) who I would need to deal with, once we have approval from your office.

The attached sample is what was distributed in St Lucie County. My intent is to have something similar designed and coordinated with the various agencies (Indian River County Commissioners, the Sheriffs Officer, et al) then printed and handed off for insertion with the registration renewals.

As I mentioned we have a website www.verobeachps.com and a blog spot http://vbps2010.blogspot.com/ and there is a write up on us in the January Vero Beach Magazine (page 179). We hold classes at the VBPS facility 301 Acacia Road just across the Barber Bridge. The course material cost range is from $20 to $50, depending on the course. Qualified member instructors teach our courses.

I look forward to discussing this more. If you have any questions please contact me at 772-933-1173 or by email at scullybob@comcast.net. I would also like to invite you and your staff to a Friday Night Social from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. As always – “You don’t need to own a boat to take a class or be a member.”

Best regards,

Vero Beach Power Squadron has COW!!!!!!!!

To: TC Palm ( Press Journal)
Dear Brightman Brock,
Title: Vero Beach Power Squadron has COW!!!!!!!!

There is a Vero Beach Power Squadron (VBPS) Change of Watch (COW) being held tonight starting at 6 at the Vero Beach Yacht Club. About 100 local residents will be attending. There are about 300 members in Vero Beach.

Basically it’s a once a year event where the elected Bridge Officers are put in place to lead the affairs of this fine boating club for the coming year. It may be worth doing a story and taking a few pictures for the Press Journal. If you want to see a few photos of last years event go to the website, pictures and look for change of watch 2009. If you want more background about the VBPS check out the blog, which also has the first quarter master schedule.

My norm is to write stories and post to YourNews but I was thinking that it makes more sense for you folks to cover local events for the newspaper, as that’s what you do.

Please let me know if I sent this email to the right place. If not would you be so kind as to forward it to the right person at the paper. If you have any questions please call me at 772-933-1173, send me an email or drop in on a Friday Night Social from 5:30 to 7:30.

Regards,
Bob Scully

Hapy New Year Vero Beach

Happy New Year from the Vero Beach Power Squadron

We just wanted to tell all the boaters in Indian River County who are not members of the Vero Beach Power Squadron (VBPS) Happy New Year.

We would also like to extend an invitation to join us at a social at our facility to welcome the New Year and meet some new friends who have a similar interest. The first Friday Social of the year is coming up on January 8. It starts at 5:30 and we encourage you to stop in.

What we are looking for is a few good men and women who have a love of the water, boats, social activity, civic service, fine dining, cruising and adventure. Our event calendar for 2010 includes a lot of fun stuff you will be missing out on if you aren’t with us.

Try it you’ll like it. There are 6-9 raft ups coming up. That’s when those who have boats invite those who don’t, to join them aboard vessels for a day on the water. A destination is selected on the Indian River and all the boats meet, tie up together and hang out for the day. It’s a great way to meet new people and checkout the various boats that members have. That’s my favorite part of the day.

One spot, which is a VBPS tradition is a place called Hole-in-the-Wall on the Indian River near Johns Island. Another is the Ft Pierce inlet on the left side of the channel as you head to sea. Last year it was quite interesting to watch all the boats that were tied together swing 180 degrees, as the tide changed direction. Very impressive indeed! So if you want to join us on a raft up, please do, but contact us first to verify the date and spot.

So from all of us at the VBPS to all of you boaters in Indian River County…Boating is fun and if you join us we commit to show you how to make it more enjoyable.
